Bearing information is generated by combining information from a vehicle fleet with a road-weather modell. The modell uses data from road-weather stations, soil frost sensor and Foreca together with GIS-information to create a bearing classification on road level. This bearing classification is built on weather forecasts and can therefor be given up to ten days in advance.

Information from the vehicle fleet is generated by measuring if the gravelroad is hard or soft on the surface. The measurement is performed with assistance from a measurement hardware installed in up to 50 measurement-vehicles, in this project a vehicle fleet from the rural postmans are used.

An interpreter wieghs together the two different informationtypes and validates that the information is correct. If the bearing forecast is close to now (i.ex. four hours from now) then the forecast relies more on vehicle data, but if the bearing forecast is further of in the future it relies more on the road-weather model.

Bearing information is presented on road segments. Each segment is assigned one of three colors, where each color represents a bearing classification.

High probability that the road is affected by reduced bearing.
Heavy vehicles should avoid this road segment.
Average probability that the road is affected by reduced bearing.
Heavy vehicles should take caution on this road segment and if possible choose an alternative route.
Low probability that the road is affected by reduced bearing.
Ordinary bearing classification applies.

The map service is found under Map. On the map page you will see an overview over the four operation areas where the system is currently active. Click on the area that you are interested in to see the color coded road segments. It is always possible to get back to the overview by pressing the button with a globe/checkered ball.

The color coded road segments gives an good overview when zoomed-out. (In this example all the roads are green, which they will not be during frozen ground season)

To get a better view of the bearing classification on a specified road or inside a smaller area, you should zoom in. Road segments with a low functional road classification is only shown when the road is zoomed-in more then 1:300000

To change forecast time you can press the icon with a clock symbol. Here you will be able to select which time of the day, as well as date, that should be shown. Information from up to ten days in advance can be fetched. There are four forecast for each day; morning, forenoon, afternoon and evening. It is also possible to see historic information, from ten days past.

To show information from the vehicle fleet you should press the icon with a car symbol. The configuration for vehicle information can be found in the same panel as forecast time, which means that you will have to have pressed forecast time to be able to see settings for vehicle data. With the two time pickers you will be able to choose a time period from which data should be fetched.

It is possible to activare fullscreen mode by pressing the icon with the four arrows. Information about individual segments or operation areas can be fetched by pressing the icon with the information symbol.
